The Holiday Destinations About to Be Everywhere in 2027
Albania had its moment. Japan became impossible to escape. The Dolomites appeared on seemingly every Instagram feed. So, where is everyone going next?
Travel destinations have trends now.
A place can spend decades being quietly beautiful before one summer suddenly transforms it into somewhere everyone you know appears to be visiting.
Social media plays its part, but so do new flight routes, easier entry requirements, hotel openings and the eternal search for somewhere that feels slightly less discovered than wherever everyone went last year.
And for 2027, travellers seem increasingly interested in exactly that: places with culture, landscapes and genuinely good experiences without quite the same crowds.
These are the destinations worth watching.
Albania
Calling Albania undiscovered at this point would be a stretch.
Its turquoise coastline, mountain scenery and considerably friendlier prices have already made it one of Europe's fastest-rising summer destinations. Now travel industry data is tipping it as one of the major destinations to watch for 2027.
The Albanian Riviera is the obvious draw, particularly around Ksamil, Dhërmi and Himarë, but the country's appeal extends well beyond the beach.
If Croatia was the Mediterranean destination everyone suddenly discovered a decade ago, Albania increasingly feels like its successor.
The only question is how long the quieter version lasts.
Georgia
Georgia has been hovering around travel's cool list for a while, but 2027 could push it considerably further into the mainstream.
Tbilisi already has the restaurants, wine bars, architecture and slightly chaotic energy required of a great city break. Outside the capital, however, is where things become particularly interesting.
Mestia, high in the Caucasus Mountains, has been selected for Intrepid Travel's 2027 Not Hot List, with investment making the region increasingly accessible.
Think dramatic mountains, medieval villages and trekking without the Dolomites-level crowds.
For travellers from the UAE, Georgia also has the considerable advantage of feeling like a proper escape without requiring an exhausting journey.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka isn't new to tourism either, but the way people are travelling there is changing.
The southern beaches remain a huge draw, but interest is moving inland towards tea country, hiking and slower trips through the island.
The Pekoe Trail — a long-distance walking route through Sri Lanka's central highlands, tea estates and villages — has been named among Intrepid's destinations to watch for 2027.
Combine that with surf towns, boutique hotels, wildlife and genuinely excellent food and Sri Lanka has the ingredients for another big year.
Uzbekistan
If your Instagram feed isn't currently full of Samarkand, give it time.
Uzbekistan's Silk Road cities look almost unreal: enormous turquoise domes, intricate mosaics, bazaars and centuries of architecture across Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
Tourism is already rising quickly. Uzbekistan reported more than 5.35 million foreign visitors during the first five months of 2026, up 27.3% from the same period a year earlier.
The second Bukhara Biennial arriving in autumn 2027 will only add to the country's cultural pull.
This feels like one of those destinations we'll suddenly wonder why we weren't visiting sooner.
Egypt
Egypt is hardly a hidden gem.
But 2027 gives people a very specific reason to return.
On 2 August, a total solar eclipse will cross parts of North Africa and the Middle East. Luxor sits directly in its path, with totality expected to last for more than six minutes — an exceptionally long eclipse that is already driving travel planning.
Add the pyramids, Nile trips, Red Sea resorts and Egypt's enormous cultural history, and it isn't difficult to see why travel industry data already has the country among its destinations to watch next year.
Alonnisos, Greece
Greece isn't going anywhere in 2027.
But travellers may start looking beyond Mykonos, Santorini and the islands that dominate summer Instagram.
Alonnisos, part of the Sporades, is considerably quieter: pine-covered landscapes, clear water, small beaches and a strong connection to marine conservation.
It's another destination appearing on Intrepid's 2027 list, with port upgrades and improving international access making it easier to reach.
It offers something increasingly valuable in European summer travel: Greece without feeling like everyone else had exactly the same idea.
The bigger travel trend for 2027
The interesting part isn't really any individual destination.
It's what they have in common.
Travellers aren't abandoning Paris, Mallorca or Tokyo. But there's growing interest in going slightly beyond the obvious — smaller cities, less famous islands, multi-stop trips and places where the experience extends beyond the hotel pool.
Touring holidays were already a significant growth area between 2025 and 2026, with travellers showing more interest in actually exploring countries rather than staying in one resort.
Which means the defining holiday of 2027 might not be about finding somewhere nobody has heard of.
Those places barely exist anymore.
It might simply be about getting there before everybody else does.
